How to set pricing on the different components in Cakenote.

Different components in Cakenote will be priced differently but the basic idea is that you can set a price on an item itself or you can use Global Pricing. Let's go through the different components and see how each one is priced.

Decorations, Construction & Products

Decorations, Construction and Product components are all priced exactly the same way. When creating or editing one of these items, you will see a panel that looks like this...

PRICE: How much do you wish to sell the item for?
COST: How much did you buy the item for?

In some cases you may not have actually purchased the item (eg. a fondant rose). In these cases, the cost can simply be left blank or if you wish, you can use it as a material cost (calculate the cost of the amount of fondant used for the fondant rose). It's totally up to you.

Decorations, Construction items and Products can vary a lot so therefore, it wouldn't make much sense to use Global Pricing for these items. When you use these items in your Design, the price and cost information will come from the item itself.

3D Cakes, Surface Decor, Ribbons & Textiles

3D Cakes, Surface Decor, Ribbons and Textiles all have the same pricing settings with the exception of the following;

1. 3D Cakes will not have a Cost field.

2. Surface Decor, Ribbons & Textiles each will be costed differently and have a different Unit available in the Unit selection.

  • Surface Decor will be costed Per 10cm².

  • Ribbons will be costed Per 1m.

  • Textiles will be costed Per 1m².

The Pricing section will generally look like this...

CUSTOM PRICING: Sets the pricing directly on the item itself.

GROUP PRICING:
Sets the pricing from Global Settings, so that it is easier to manage multiple items with similar pricing.

UNIT:
As stated above, the available options for this selection will vary depending on the type of item being created/edited. This is basically the Unit of pricing you wish to use. Per Item will be a whole amount for one single unit of the item. For example, if you set a Surface Decor to cost $10 Per Item, it will cost $10 per cake you add it to. If you set it to Per 10cm², it would be calculated based on the surface area of the cake it is applied to.

PRICE:
How much do you wish to sell the item for?

COST:
Whether you purchased this item (purchase price), or you made it (material cost), how much did this item cost you? As stated above, this field will vary depending on the type of item being created/edited. For 3D Cakes, this field will not appear.

Ingredients & Recipes

Ingredients and Recipes are priced differently from other components. We need an entirely different article to go into detail about Ingredients and Recipes so I won't go into too much detail here.

Basically each Ingredient has a Cost Per Kg, and when the Ingredient is used within a Recipe, that Ingredient's Cost Per Kg (along with all the other Ingredients used) is used to calculate a Cost Per Kg for the Recipe. This is important because a Recipe can be used within another Recipe as an Ingredient, so it also needs to have a Cost Per Kg.
